Transrockies takes over Fernie
In 2002 the first Transrockies race left Fernie, B.C. bound for Canmore, Alberta after 7 gruelling days on a mountain bike. Since then Fernie as been involved in every succesive Transrockies race. The past couple years we have seen the finish roll into town but in 2010 again Fernie was the starting point.
Competitors from across the world started rolling into Fernie 3-4 days before the event. Businesses benefited greatly from the increased tourist traffic and the fantastic weather leading up to the event showcased our beutiful town.
While the weather turned to grey skies and rain on the morning of the first day it didn't deter the riders. There was even a tandem team ready to take on the famous Fernie single track.
Fernie local rider and good friend of Giv' Er Shirt Works ripped up the 3 day TR3 solo event and nailed a top 7 finish in her first ever bike race. Way to go Krista!!
When the riders rode out of Fernie on Monday and the Transrockies crew packed up to end to the next stage finish area, town definitely was quiter. The riders still have some gruelling days ahead of them but we are back to enjoying our killer Fernie single track all to ourselves!
