Snow on the Peaks!!

Check out the freshies!Check out the freshies!Although the weather we experienced on Sunday was horrible - cold and rainy, we couldn't help but be a bit excited when the clouds parted and we saw fresh snow on the peaks. We actually watched a ski movie last night to appease the early season stoke we were feeling! We thought we would paste an excerpt from the National Weather Services Climate Prediction Centre concerning this winter's precipitation forecast.

Transrockies takes over Fernie

In 2002 the first Transrockies race left Fernie, B.C. bound for Canmore, Alberta after 7 gruelling days on a mountain bike. Since then Fernie as been involved in every succesive Transrockies race. The past couple years we have seen the finish roll into town but in 2010 again Fernie was the starting point.

While the weather turned to grey skies and rain on the morning of the first day it didn't deter the riders. There was even a tandem team ready to take on the famous Fernie single track.

Summer at Giv' Er. Great deals and new stuff!

It has been a bit of a slow start to the summer here in Fernie. The precip we were wishing for in the winter came in June and we have had the wood stove lit on at least 3 seperate occasions in July. Lately though the sun has been shining! There is still a bit of afternoon precip but as long as you can ride in the mornings or evenings it has been helpful in keeping the bike trails in awesome shape!

Giv' Er goes mountain biking at Fernie Alpine Resort

Even though Becky and I haven't been on our bikes much lately and I am generally scared $#@%less on the hill, she convinced me to go out for community appreciation day where it is free for locals to ride the lifts and they have a twoonie BBQ up at Lost Boys Cafe.
We threw the bikes in the back of the Giv' Er truck and headed to the hill to meet up with Amanda and Rusan.

Giv' Er goes to Island Lake Lodge

Island Lake Lodge is known for its beautiful views, amazing food and wine, warm hospitality and of course the endless pow and terrain for world class cat skiing.

We were lucky enough about 3 years ago to spend a day cat skiing after one of our famous Fernie storms. The Griz had delivered and we skiied run after run of blower powder. What many may not realize is that Island Lake is equally amazing in the summer. Stunning views and epic hiking trails give you plenty to see and do while you experience the same amazing service, food and ambience as the winter season.

After a long winter in Fernie, we decided to pack up the Giv' Er mobile with an arsenal of mountain bikes and camping gear, and head down to sunny Moab Utah for a little R&R.
